What Are Programs of Support — And Why Are They Great for Your Child?

If your child accesses therapy services under the NDIS, you may have heard the term “Program of Support.” But what exactly does it mean — and how can it help?

At Harper’s Health, we use Programs of Support to run our fun, focused and therapeutic school holiday groups — and here’s why that matters.

What is a Program of Support?

A Program of Support is a short-term, goal-directed series of therapy sessions delivered in a group or individual format. It typically runs for a set period (e.g. 2–4 weeks) and focuses on building specific skills through structured, evidence-informed activities.

The NDIS allows participants to commit to a Program of Support without needing to confirm attendance every week, making planning and participation easier for everyone.

Why Choose a Program of Support?

Here are just a few benefits:

Consistency and Structure

Children thrive on routine. Programs of Support offer a predictable structure and safe space to build skills over time — whether in communication, emotional regulation, or physical coordination.

Social Learning

Your child is supported to connect, collaborate, and interact with peers in a supported, therapist-led environment — perfect for building confidence and friendships.

Goal-Directed Support

Each program is designed with clear learning outcomes in mind. Our therapists tailor activities to help children achieve their individual and NDIS goals.

NDIS-Approved

Programs of Support can be claimed through NDIS funding, with simple upfront agreements. There's no need to re-sign for each individual session, and they allow for absences without disrupting the program.

How It Works at Harper’s Health

Our School Holiday Groups are delivered as Programs of Support and include:

– Movement regulation and gross motor activities– Fine motor skill building and creative tasks– Sensory play and regulation strategies– Social and emotional development.

Each group is run by experienced allied health professionals and designed to be inclusive, engaging, and purposeful. Depending on the theme, your child may even take home a creation, a resource, or a new skill to keep practicing! We have groups running during these July school holidays, and spots are limited.

Bookings close Monday, 1st July 2025.

Final Thoughts

Programs of Support are a fantastic way to make therapy more accessible, more fun, and more meaningful. They reduce the admin, focus on outcomes, and give your child the chance to grow in ways that are playful, social, and supported.
