Where It All Began: The Beginning of Harper’s Health

As the charming cottage at 2 Lorn Street, Lorn goes up for sale once again, we find ourselves reflecting on its quiet but powerful place in our story — not just as a building, but as the birthplace of Harper’s Health.

Ten years ago, this was where it all began. A psychologist and an occupational therapist — Trent and Alex, newly married, filled with hope — made the leap to create something of their own. A space where people could receive genuine, evidence-based support. A business built on heart, purpose, and the kind of flexibility that would allow them to grow a family while helping others do the same.

“Initially, Alex and I hoped to achieve two things — our love for helping others, and the flexibility to support our family and each other.” - Trent

The clinic in Lorn was more than a place of work. It was a dream in motion. It was where the first clients arrived, often with a mix of nerves and hope. It was where therapy plans were written late into the evening, toddlers played in the waiting room, and where the journey began to balance life as both professionals and new parents.

Since those early days, Harper’s Health has grown — not just in size, but in scope and impact. Today, we offer speech therapy, behaviour support, and social work alongside our foundational services of psychology and occupational therapy. We now work across two beautiful locations in Morpeth and East Maitland, supported by a passionate, multidisciplinary team of over 20 staff.

“We’ve grown, but we’ve remained true to our values. Our carefully chosen team deeply cares about outcomes, evidence-based work, one another, and their development.” - Trent & Alex

Our mission has always been clear: to support people with compassion, curiosity, and respect. We love learning about each person’s story — and we know that holding space for that story, respecting its complexities, is perhaps the most important thing we do.

We create individualised, evidence-based plans. We apply them with care. We celebrate every goal reached — big or small — with the people, families, and teams we’re honoured to support.

Though we now have waitlists at times, we remain committed to finding ways to support new people in our community. That drive to serve and connect has never wavered, and neither has our gratitude for the journey that started in that humble little cottage.

So as 2 Lorn Street finds new owners, we feel proud — not just of what has been built, but of the foundation it all stood on: love, purpose, and people.

To everyone who has been part of our story — thank you for your trust, your stories, and your belief in what we do.

Here’s to where it all began — and to everything that’s still to come.

With gratitude,Trent, Alex & The Harper’s Health Team
